As you all know, I am always searching for the next great new hot sauce. I am super excited every time I purchase something I have never tried. Some hot sauces can get kind of pricey, so I don’t always get to buy as often as I would like to. But it was my birthday weekend recently, so I splurged and bought 4 new hot sauces! Very thrilling for a chilihead like me. Today I am doing a Hot Sauce Review on SmokeShow Super Hot Sauce and Tia Lupita Hot Sauce.
I posted a review a few days ago on the first of my 4 new hot sauces. That was Hot Mama Salsa, La Femme Fatali (you can click the blue link here to check out that review). Today, for my second Birthday Hot Sauce review I will be discussing SmokeShow Super Hot Sauce and Tia Lupita Hot Sauce.
Smokeshow Super Hot Sauce
I decided to combine these 2 hot sauces into one review, because I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to write a very long post on this first one…”Smokeshow Super Hot Sauce-Habashow”.
I bought this mainly because it was very inexpensive, and because I liked the bottle. Also, it is made here in Oregon. I always try to support local companies when possible, and I always hope they are awesome. There were 3 varieties of the Smokeshow brand, Pretty Hot, Kinda Hot, and Super Hot. Of course, me being me, I went for the hottest option. They also have a green hot sauce that I have not tried yet.
The bottle is cute and small (only 2 oz). The sauce is very liquidy and had a squeeze top, kind of like an eye dropper, or one of those bottles we used to use in chemistry class back in high school.
It only has four ingredients…Vinegar, Peppers, Salt, and Water. I liked that it didn’t have any extra, unpronounceable things thrown in there. I didn’t really expect flavor to be the star of this hot sauce, as there are only 4 ingredients. It was nice going into this one without high expectations, as I usually do.
This hot sauce, as far as I can tell, has no flavor whatsoever. It does, however, have some heat. This may sound like a negative statement, but really it’s not. I am super excited about this sauce!
It is really hard to find something spicy that doesn’t have flavor. Flavor is great and all, but not all of the time. Sometimes you like the flavor of the food just the way it is and you don’t want to mess with it at all. Or, sometimes, what you’re eating just doesn’t seem to pair well with any of the sauces you have.
That is where this sauce comes in handy. It just adds a kick without doing anything to the flavor profile of your dish. You can also just add it to a mild condiment that has the flavor you are looking for and give it bump in spiciness. I just squished a bunch of this into some A-1 and dipped cold steak into it. It was really great. Tasted just like A-1, but spicy!
This Smokeshow Super Hot Sauce is definitely going to be one I keep stocked in my house from now on. This is the only spicy, flavor free hot sauce I have ever had. And not only is it filling that void in my spicy life, but it is also easy on the pocketbook! So glad I found a winner!

Tia Lupita Hot Sauce
This next hot sauce is called Tia Lupita. It comes out of the San Francisco, CA bay area. The bottle tells a nice little story about this sauce being his (or her) mother’s recipe. Their Mom has been making it for 50 years in their hometown of San Francisco, Mexico. It says she used to ship it to him (or her) when he (or she) moved to California, and all his (or her) new friends loved it, so he (or she) decided to bottle it up and sell it.
This product is “Non-GMO, Gluten Free, No Sugar, and All Natural”. The ingredients are Red Jalapenos, Water, Organic Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Garlic, Oregano, Black Pepper, and Cumin.
The Oregano and Cumin, along with the little story, is what made me want to try this sauce. I don’t think I have ever bought a bottled sauce that contained Oregano or Cumin. So, I couldn’t wait to give it a try!
When you open up the jar and give it a whiff you can definitely smell the cumin and a hint of oregano. It has a pretty intense aroma, but it smells good.
The flavor is pretty much exactly how it smells. It is a fairly thick hot sauce. It almost seems like there is tomato in it, but there isn’t.
Although the hot sauce tastes good, it is almost to overwhelming for the first couple things I tried it on. All you can taste is the sauce. I haven’t tried this yet, but I think it might be a really cooking sauce. Adding it to ground beef while cooking some up for tacos seems like the perfect use for this hot sauce. It might also be good as a marinade for say a slow-cooked pork roast.
I have eaten some pretty bland tacos at certain places, and this would be a great topper to add some quick flavor in those cases. However, when I cook at home, my food tastes good, so I don’t usually want to drown it out with a super intensely flavored condiment. I do plan to use it as a cooking additive though. I really think that it would work out great as a substitute for my usually taco seasonings.
This hot sauce does have a nice little kick to it for sure. From my initial tasting all I could really remember was the flavor. So I went back and stuck my pinky finger in the jar (it’s mine, I can do whatever I want) and took another taste…it was actually pretty hot!
And when I tasted it again on a different day than the first time, the flavor had really grew on me. It is quite yummy. It does have a distinct cumin flavor, but it taste really pure. Not like the taco seasoning packets you get at the store that are full of preservatives. this sauce actually tastes fresh and natural.
I can’t wait to use it for tacos next time!

Hot Sauce Review Wrap Up
I think everyone that just wants add a little kick to everyday meals should try the Smokeshow Super Hot Sauce. Like I said earlier, it is priced so well that everybody can give t a try. It would literally be great in, or on anything!
Tia Lupita is much more of a flavor overload, but I think it is worth giving a try. It has a really unique flavor compared to all other hot sauces I have tried. It tastes really fresh and like it was made with love. It might not be something that you use everyday like the Smokeshow Hot Sauce, but is something tasty and might be nice to have around.
